It’s been a while since I’ve done this, so I’m not exactly sure to begin. Do we start back at the beginning, when a kid in fifth grade got a compliment on a writing assignment and decided to make it her dream? Or do we go the teenager in high school with a story complete but no confidence to try and publish it. Maybe we can flash forward from that to the 20 something year old working on a story she began shortly after that fifth grade breakthrough. When she had enough confidence in herself that she turned her story, her work, in a blog that she kept running for a good while.
How many of those versions of myself would be disappointed of today’s model. Months without writing any words. Another slump, drama at home, a thousand reasons, but no real excuses.
How many New Year’s resolutions have I broken?
I’ve lost myself for a little bit and now I’m trying to get back on track. I miss the writing. I miss the blogging. I miss the other bloggers. I miss being a part of a community of people who like to share their stories and ideas with the world.
So here I am.
Welcome home, don’t be a stranger again.
Since it’s been so long, I almost feel like I need to start from scratch.
But where to begin?
They are everything
The first meeting, the first text
The long nighty phone conversations
They were analyzed
Phrases were rehearsed and planned
They are the reason you fell for me
Crafted so carefully
Presented so articulately
They mean nothing
If they aren’t made for you from me.
…And somehow end up drink the entire bottle.
So not my intention. It was at least a cheap $3 bottle of wine from Aldi’s. If you don’t know what Aldi’s is, you’re missing out. With nearly an entire bottle of wine now in my system, I remember I have laundry to finish putting up and a “homework” assignment to get done for work.
Speaking of work, tomorrow will be a big day. Managers are rotating around, which is a normal thing in retail if you stay long enough to notice. My “new” manager is one I have worked closely with already so it isn’t too much of a change. I think he is really pining on me getting promoted (with his help), so he’s been pushing me to do everything I need before it was official that he was becoming my boss.
So, we’ll see how that goes.
I am in a place right now that getting promoted is not that important as a financial level, it’s more of something to challenge me more. I only worry about it taking too much time away from my family. Before we moved here from San Diego, I did not get as much time with my family and I would hate to fall into that again. But it’s a job that has four-day shifts each week besides peak season, so it shouldn’t be as crazy becoming a manager.
In other news, I am trying to get back into my writing. I feel like I type those words more than my actual work. Now that I’m getting older, it bothers me more and more every year I fail to publish something. Hopefully this is my year.
Well, I have some cleaning to do and laundry. Forcing myself bacjcinto blogging, so I apologize if these first set of posts aren’t very engaging.
I have been out three nights in a row with my wife and sister-in-law (and the peanut of course) playing Pokemon Go. That game is addicting and so much fun. The first two nights, we mostly just drove around and the two of them did most of the work (my wife caught me a lot of cool Pokemon). Yesterday, we went walking around in a nearby town with a group of fabulous people we met the night before. There’s some people out there who think the game is silly but it is amazing to see everyone out walking around and interacting. My only warning is that you should go with someone, especially when it gets late. There are bad people out there who might target players. We haven’t had any issues but we’ve been sticking to our town and the other, where all the stops are in the middle of town near police and fire stations.
Unfortunately, my writer’s block is back and kicking my ass. I had been working on my SRT Archives stories (which you can find the original chapters/drafts at my other blog The SRT Archives). I reached a standstill at editing and adding to the first series. I’m hoping after this week (mentally preparing for an interview this Friday with Amazon) I can reboot my writing brain and get back to the series.
Any Pokemon trainers in the southern Illinois area? Anyone catch anything cool? I got a Pikachu and I’m so excited about it.
Woke up early today- for me at least. Had to bring my car in for an oil change. I have already walked around the entire electronics department at a window shopper pace and even searched the cheap Blu Ray bin for a copy of Fight Club since the one I own is in a box somewhere in Oklahoma or Texas.
Glad I got here when I did. There’s ton of cars pulling up now.
When I actually wake up, I’ll be a littls more excited. Going to a book signing today with the wife. Her Mother’s Day gift to me is us going to see Chuck Palahniuk and me gettng some of my stuff signed by him. I’m also hoping I win a raffle for a leatherbound rare copy of the original Fight Club book. When he came out to San Diego, I didn’t get one, but I got a signed severed arm, which is pretty badass and creeps out people who come visit us.
I need coffee. Or a Red Bull.
I will most likely be posting a couple for times today, since I’m going to that awesome event.
I haven’t been able to post for a day or two because we’ve been building a horse barn in the back. We’ve been kind of working on in during the week but most of the work has been done yesterday and today. We got the walls up and started on the roof. Tomorrow will be another early wake up and finish the structure of the roof and work on the inside a little. Here’s what it looks like so far.
Trying to get the bulk of it done this weekend because Monday when my wife and I start our diets, we’re probably not going to be about working outside for four+ hours in the heat. Super happy with how much we’ve gotten done. Tried but can’t complain since I’m not working yet, so I’m not a zombie.
Hoping the wife will stay up a little bit tonight so we can watch our new episode of Rizzoli and Isles (last season : ( … maybe Hulu or someone will pick it up). Also hoping I can get aome good sleep tonight. Tossed and turned last night, so getting up this morning was a struggle.
Well, this is a short post. Going to try to do some writing/editing my stories before bed. Have a good night!
…like being zapped by the hot wire on the horse fence. When your MILs (morher-in-laws) go on vacation and you have to take care of the farm animals. My wife and I have been switching on in the morning because we usually wake up later in the day. Today was the last day of the week and I, of course, finally shock the shit out of my arm. The pain went away but my arm still feels funny.
Fun fact: when you get shocked, it leaves an entrance and exit mark, which look like two bugs bites.
At least I have a funny story to tell.
My daughter wanted another cookie when we got home. When I told her she had to have dinner first, she acted like a normal child in their terrible-two’s and had a meltdown. So now I’m watching My Little Pony with her so she would eat her awesome steak that my wife made. She has her ponies and I have my wine.
It’s been an emotional couple of days for me and I’m not apologizing for my never-ending reblogs about Orlando but something serious happened and it’s a problem. It isn’t just an LGBT problem or a Florida problem, it’s an America problem and a human one. Something needs to change.
But since I have a big glass of wine entering my system, I’m going to try being more lively.
I spent the 15 minutes before eating my steak trying to locate Twilight Sparkle. I thought My Little Pony wouldn’t still be a thing when my daughter was old enough to care but she loves it. And now I can name an unnecessary amount of ponies and feel obligated to buy my daughter Pony figures
My wife and I have this weird thing about deciding which girl in our daughter’s shows is the lesbian. In Octonauts, we agreed it was Tweak the techy bunny. In My Little Pony, I would say either Rainbow Dash or Applejack. These are the things parents do to survive children shows, especially when you watch all of the episodes multiple times.
Being a parent is a crazy experience. You find yourself doing some strange shit you never would have done pre-child. Life is strange.
I’m starting to feel this wine a little bit. By the way, that steak was delicious. Tiger sauce is boss. And make sure you marinade it overnight, too. That’s about all I can tell you. My wife makes it and it’s bomb. I make some delicious pork chops though. Maybe I’ll make a post with a recipe.
Hope everyone is having a great night. I’m going to watch this episode of ponies and finish my little bit of wine.
Hey everyone, it’s been an interesting couple of days. As a graduation present from my mother-in-law, I got a kitty.
His name is Toothless (after the dragon of course). He is super lovable and enjoys to play. This is the third day he’s been home and he has definitely taken to me. I leave the living room and he comes looking for me if I’m gone too long. I am happy to have a cat again and I’m glad our daughter has a pet to grow with.
In other news, I have a new domain for the blog. You can now find this site at https://victoriaslebron.com. Well, that link may or may not work for the next few days. Now, my pizza’s almost done but I’ll make sure to post again tonight.
I’ve been having trouble falling to sleep at night. Ever since the move, I can’t seem to fall asleep until after laying in bed for an hour or so. Instead of staring at my eyelids for an hour+, I work on writing or I read. Now that my classes are finally over (just waiting for them to send me my degree), I have starting reading for my personal pleasure again.
And what do I start with?
Fight Club of course. I plan on re-reading all of my Chuck Palahniuk books. I am missing three in my collection, but I might ask for a late anniversary gift from the wife. Speaking of Fight Club, in a month I’ll be getting a signed hardcover version of the sequel and have a chance at getting two more of my older books signed by my favorite author.
On a less positive note, I have to start the real job hunt. Once I officially have a degree, I’m hoping for something good. Still not sure exactly what I want to do, which is silly-I know- but whatever. It’ll come to me.
Until a job, I have my books and I’m writing. And my blogs that I have missed very much. Anyway, going to try working on some more writing until I can fall asleep.
